Professional Coaching

One-to-one coaching offers an invaluable opportunity for us to ‘step out’ for a few hours to reflect on what is happening in our lives and work. It enables us to acknowledge what is going well and to work practically on what needs to improve whether the issues are short, medium or long term.

We enable the person concerned to think more clearly and objectively for themselves by providing a confidential, high trust environment, asking incisive questions and supporting, where appropriate, the development of their skills, knowledge and confidence. Coaching may involve helping to extend their reading, introducing them to other people or organisations that can assist with their issues and organising development opportunities such as work-shadowing or joint projects. Subject areas for discussion can range from immediate work-related problems to improving relationships or partnerships in the medium term to thinking longer term about career direction and options.

I’ve gone from being a quite reticent, risk-averse, “new GP” to wanting to jump in and get my hands dirty and be involved in change. I’m more excited about my role as a recently qualified GP and I can see the great potential and scope that there is to develop, especially with regards to leadership.
